Romantic Gundala

This is my contribution for 40th Year of Gundala Tribute Artbook, coordinated by
Originally I want to draw Gundala fighting his nemesis, but I didn’t have enough references. Then I thought, why don’t I draw another side of him? Since I already got Merpati (Gundala’s wife) picture, I decided to make Gundala’s sentimental moment.

I believe that whatever people saw in him, Gundala is the most romantic Indonesian superhero. Well, for the most part, he was struck by a lightning and got his first ability when running heart broken in the rain. His creator, Hasmi, even admitted that few elements of Gundala’s story was based on his own real life. Hell, if anybody got powers like him, would that be his spouse that he will show it off to?

So, this is it. Gundala and Merpati, the Indonesian romantic super heroes couple in their quality time.
